Transmitters & Receptors

1. A neuron sends a transmitter across the synapse (gap
between neurons) and
2. The next neuron receives it thru a receptor on its surface. When
a matching neurotransmitter and receptor come into contact with each
other, the neurotransmitter locks into the receptor.
3. The receptor then becomes activated.
4. When there are no neurotransmitter molecules around to unlock
the receptors, the receptors remain in a closed or inactive state
5. Free floating neurotransmitters are taken back up by the neuron
that originally released them. This is called reuptake.

SSRIs inhibit (or reduce) the action of reuptake so that there is more serotonin in the synapse

It has been found that there is an association between depression and three
main neurotransmitters:
1. Serotonin,
2. Norepinephrine
3. Dopamine

These three neurotransmitters function within the brain and regulate
emotions
1. Reactions to stress
2. Physical drives of
a. sleep
b. appetite
c. sexuality.

  3. When you are in the "new Post" area, type in your message, directly above the area are little icons. one of them looks like a tv acreen. click on it and options are shown as where you want to position the photo, where to find it(your computer, other website)
    Click on "done"
it goes through some motions, then click "publish"

  5. I understand what you're saying but I'm not sure of the impact. Is the action of reuptake a good thing or a bad thing?

BTW ... thank you for following my blog!

  6. When you inhibit the reuptake (take it back in)....you leave more serotonin in the synapse (gap)....this causes you to be in a better mood.

  7. Hi (again). Thank you for the answer ... I learned something today! :)

You asked, on my blog, if I would automatically receive your answer if posted here. Unfortunately, no ... and I appreciate your stopping by my site to answer because I have a hard time getting back to all the places I've visited to see if they've answered.

BTW ... I've been following you for awhile ... great information!

  10. I found your blog through visiting "Small Footprints" blog. I find your site very informative and encouraging.

I can't imagine the frustration of felling better and then to be right back at square one with no hope in site.

From reading your site, I have deduced that I have fallen into the "Agitated" state at times.

When I looked at the "what not to say" list #29 really jumped out. I have heard that too many times to count. Knowing that there is comfort in God's Word and actually having it are 2 separate things. Unfortunately, Christians don't seem to get that at times.

I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

Agitation can be one of the most difficult states to endure...... for you have the 'will to do that which is right but not the power' Romans 7:18B. Many Christians sincerely feel that if you just read the second chapter of Luke you'll feel all better. Its not that easy for some of us.
Thank you so much for your comments. You're very encouraging

Thanks for your kind words. I feel compelled to tell people who are both suffering and not suffering that it is something that is treatable though not curable. Thanks for stopping by

  14. My psychology class is talking about the Nervous System but I would like to know if I am comprehending this right. I rephrased it. Please let me, I would appreciate it a ton! <3

A neuron sends a transmitter through the synapse (A nerve? Or is it seperate from the nerves? Acts as a highway to homes-[other neurons]) to the next neuron's receptor on the surface of the neuron. When a matching neurotransmitter and receptor come into contact with each other, the neurotransmitter locks into the receptor and it becomes activated. (Similar to a plug.)

I did not quite understand number 4. Other Transmitter Molecules (Neurotransmitters? Or seperate from Neurotransmitters?) must be around to unlock the receptors or it remains unactivated. How is that!? If the connection of the transmitter activates the receptor, why does it not stay activated? (Again, similar to a plug.)

    I understand number five.

Is this a valid description of a healthy nervous reaction or is this in relation to depression?

Please email me B.Robin1@yahoo.com. Thank you..
