Desired Things

"Desiderata"

(Latin for "desired things") is an inspirational prose poem about attaining happiness in life. It was first copyrighted in 1927 by Max Ehrmann.

Some of you may not have read it. Please do…and find what peace there may be in the words of this now immortal poem.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

And remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender,

Be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others -

Even the dull and ignorant, they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons - they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter,

For always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career -

However humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,

For the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is.

Many persons strive for high ideals,

And everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially do not feign affection, neither be cynical about love.

For in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,

It is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the council of the years,

Gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune,

But do not distress yourself with imaginings -

Many fears are borne of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe.

No less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations,

In the noisy confusion of life,

Keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

It is still a beautiful world.

Be careful. Strive to be happy.

  1. I haven't read this in a very long time. I used to have it as a poster in my room as a teen.

Thanks for reminding me of this again!

  3. Yes it is.

I decided to answer the question you asked me here instead of on my own blog.

I don't have a link list I use a blog roll instead. So here goes:)

Go to the layout page of your blog.

Click on "add a gadget". A menu will pop up in front of your layout. Click on the one that is "link list".

From there you can copy and paste my url. Don't forget to add a title to this. I didn't do that with some of my gadgets and when I changed my blog.....let's just say it wasn't pretty.

It may be easier for you to just add a blog roll to your blog.
If you are already following some blogs, this will add them to your page.

You can do this in the same way as the above except click on "blog list". Here you also add by url or click on "add a blog to your list" and if you are following any blogs, this will automatically add them to your page. This will also show you the newest post of your favorite blogs on your dashboard.

I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing your name on my list of followers soon:)
